The Swanage Railway runs through southern Dorset using old diesels and steam engines. This photo s taken at Corfe, of castle fame. I'm old enough to have travelled by steam when I was young and it was the main form of locomotion. I guess that means I could have posted a self-portrait and still been on theme!

Brentford has a thriving boat community, both on the Grand Union Canal and the River Thames. Whilst the narrow boats tend to have the canal, the Thames and the tributaries are dominated by Dutch barges. There is even a hull maker nearby. Not an industry you would expect to see in a London suburb.

This was taken at Bodnant Castle Gardens in North Wales. I'm not a great one for visiting gardens. Probably comes from not having a garden for all my adult life but the one thing I do like is taking photos of flowers. I've probably looked at more flowers in the last few years from a photography point of view than I have in all my previous years.

This tree is on the estate where I live. I pass it every day and when the sun is on it it shines bright yellow. (Much better than my photo can capture). And it's added to by the bush underneath. Whenever I see it, no matter how bad the day, it cheers me up.

This is a neon display for a games machine on the pier at Weston-Super-Mare. It's a sort of a pinball machine but somehwat more up-to-date than I'm used to. Like most things I come across these days! :)

..... Cathedral

St Pauls Cathedral in fact. One of the most iconic buildings of London, it is the replacement cathedral built by Sir Christopher Wren following the loss of the previous one in the 1666 Great Fire of London.

Over the years there have been moves to keep the views of the Cathedral clear from most sides but slowly and surely we are losing them. There are a number of listed views of buildings and the one that covers St Pauls is from Ludgate Circus, but there are even rumours that the government will eventually allow the full view to be lost. Whilst most countries in the world would want to preserve views of their historic buildings it seems like the powers that be here have had enough history now.

Big Wheel!

Actually this one is the London Eye. Opened for the Millenium it has become a real feature of the Southbank area and every time there is a plan to close it there is a public outcry. If you find yourself in London, which can be an expensive place at the best of times, I reckon this is one thing you can do and it's well worth the money.

And as a Bonus you get another couple of B's. Big Ben in the background.

I spent 6 years of my life at this school. Half way along the front is a doorway which none of us pupils were ever allowed to walk through. We had a door round the side and the front entrance was left for the great and the good when they visited. I'm not even sure the teachers were allowed through.

Anyway, which ever door I went through I'm not sure it did me any good.

We were driving on holiday between Carcassonne and Beziers in Southern France via a long winding road and I glanced out of the side window, saw this view and slammed on the breaks. Took the photo because of the ruined castle but can't tell you exactly where it was.

There is something about a nicely formed line(s) of supermarket trolleys that is pleasing to the eye. Or at least my eye. This lot actually are nicely packed so they're straight rather than a bit wiggly.

This photo is of Kimmeridge Bay down in Dorset. It was taken from the coastal path coming in from the west. Although it doesn't look like it, it was a swelteringly hot day and this is what greeted us after a 10 mile hike.
